Inspired by the ornamental decor and endless keepsakes saved in boxes from her childhood, Katja uses these aspects as a source of influence in how she currently works through a more alternative lens.
Decorative patterns and darker aesthetics are a big form of inspiration in her use of colour and the way she gives shape to the objects and jewellery she makes. She finds sense in repeating motifs and building recognisable character in her designs.
Her research throughout the last several years of mourning jewellery, mementos and keepsakes led her to reflect back on her own habits of collecting and saving personal valuables in intimate -almost- jewellery boxes. The sentiment of this habit is something she now implements in her process of working and designing. Creating unique, sentimental pieces that could always find their way back into a well thought out resting place.
